Van Building Gone wrong

8 weeks, $15,000.00 Deposit

I received some wiring and a partial floor, and receive an accountable statement $16,62190 and an Invoice for $8150.00 for cabinets...

60 Plus hours to do a partial floor and some pre wiring, How long do you think it should have taken ?

This was all done by Allan Tone of sprinter Engineering out of North Salt Lake Utah

This video is like Tiger King, you want to stop watching, since it is so long, but you have to know what happens.

Its worth watching

Van Build Gone Wrong

People are asking why only $25 K for a van build, two reasons, our design was super simple and We had 19 Shows / Expos planned this summer and because we have a pretty decent internet presence, I was going to promote his business

but …. and the disclaimer is that I know nothing of your company (Overland Gear Guy) … if you had any idea of materials required for a project of this scope, why would you buy into this guy's bull-feathers in the beginning?

there's really so much "wrong" on both sides of this; at least you've saved two other people from the ordeal.

Wow that is really sad. I own an automotive upholstery and restoration shop and I have done a full rv by myself in 2 weeks which included builiding cabinets couches and reupholstering. I have had people come to me for quotes and I have said you buy all all the things you want in it and I will charge you labor to install or sub out. I do not know him but it sounds line he was way over his head or did not really care. I hope it is the first. Good luck on your build and I hope you get it resolved.

Overland Gear Guy is a good dude and makes killer stuff.....so he knows biz and know customer service.
Which makes this suck more being on the other side and getting ripped like this.
Having just did my van interior I know I would charge a bunch of labor cost as it is hard work, but these numbers are just stupid.

from the ogg website - 'We have been manufacturing ….. over 29 years of manufacturing gear in the USA. Recently I got into Overlanding, Extended Traveling, 4 wheeling, living off the grid, self staining...'

part of that is right.

“We had 19 Shows / Expos planned this summer and because we have a pretty decent internet presence, I was going to promote his business”

Any business person with a lick of sense would have possibly offered you a hat or a keychain, or a free cup holder in your van, something like that in exchange for your worthless offer of dubious publicity. Not a noticeable discount. This van builder agreed to a discount when the money he was giving up would be far more impactful spent on real advertising.

Your thinking you could help this guy sell conversions was an honest mistake, but him accepting tells me he was just trying to get your deposit. Only an idiot would accept your offer. I suspect he’s not an idiot.

Looks like you’re signing up for van forums so you can retaliate against this guy, but you should be angry with yourself. All due respect but I can’t imagine anybody would be so impressed at your “super simple” build that they’d rush right out to give the builder a contract. You are only one of thousands of people with van conversions and Allan Tone is only one of many hundreds of builders. And your video is taken down so I also suspect he sent you a cease and desist letter.

I thought your post would simply be about getting ripped off but it’s a lesson in being skeptical of “too good to be true” offers. You should think about stopping your one-sided campaign, accepting your loss as tuition to the school of business savvy, paying your remaining balance and moving on.
