vehicle shipping

I'd like to know others experiences/reccommendations regarding vehicle shipping for expeditions. I'm in the beginning stages of planning a Seattle/Alaska/across Canada/Maine trip, but I'd like to know the cost and complexity of shipping the Cruiser to Seattle to save the cross country drive. I've made that drive a bunch of times already and would like to save the time.

Do you use Amtrak? Or one of the vehicle shipping companies? I had a lousy experience with one once and it made me gunshy.

Thanks.

Try www.uship.com

I ship quite a few vehicles and have been using uship the past few times. You will receive quotes pretty quickly and each carrier has to be licensed and insured in order to be on uship.

With the economy the way it is, I have had trouble finding good reputable carriers that have not gone under. As soon as I found one, I would call them a few months later and they are out of business. Now, I just use uship.

Hope that helps.

Generally the vehicle must be empty or you pay per pound for all items inside. Also depending on the age of the vehicle you may have to sign liability waiver on total value. I just shipped this summer from Seattle to Alaska. It went very smoothly, but do read all the rules and fine print.
