Vintage Boxy SUVs (Lexus LX?)

Hey All,

I love the vintage looking boxy SUVs and am in the market for a used vehicle. I should mention that I work from home and my wife and I have a new Subaru Outback we plan to use as a daily driver.

I am not handy, wouldn't mind learning and fixing minor issues but looking for something that will be pretty reliable for driving 5,000 miles a year or so in Minnesota. I would likely take the Subaru for longer roadtrips, don't need anything for serious overlanding...simply fly fish and want something I can drive along the river and will not get stuck in wet/snowy or hilly conditions.

I am debating between a 2002-2007 Lexus LX or 2009-2013 Lexus GX. I understand the GX is probably a wiser buy but I love the aesthetic of the LX. Here are some other vehicles I really like to give you an idea of what I am in the market for and to see if there are any others I should consider that fit the criteria. I figure of those I am looking at, the Lexus models make the most sense for price/reliability although I am willing to pay a little more for aesthetics.

1988 Land Cruiser
MB G Wagon
2005-2009 LR3
2004 Land Rover Discovery
1991 Mitsubishi Pajero
1996 Range Rover
1996 Land Cruisera

P.S. How many miles can I expect a Lexus 2002-2007 LX to go for?

If you’re familiar with Subaru’s, why don’t you get a Forester? They’re kind of boxy.

And if you’re into fishing, how about a Tacoma? For a beat around, play truck, I wouldn’t mind a single cab Tacoma, 2.7L, 5-speed manual, and a simple topper.
