Damn, that seems like a good deal. I wonder what his reserve is? Theres a place about a mile from my house that sells the military version of these but I think they start at around $15k. IMO a more practical vehicle than a Pinzgauer in many respects due to the Volvo 6 cyl engine (shares common parts with older Volvo cars) and the fact that unlike the Pinz it's water cooled (better heat in the Winter.) Also it's a hard top where most of the surplus Pinz's I see are ragtops.

As a person who has owned both, I have to disagree. Although I do like the common volvo engine, thats about the only thing I like over the Pinz. The brakes are worse, the ride is very rough. Only a 4 speed. And the build quality on these vs. a pinz is like comparing a yugo to a truck. You can really tell the difference as soon as you get in. Also it has less room for the driver than the Pinz, even though its larger. Anyone taller than 5ft11 cant see out the side window without lowering your head. The shift on the fly is non existent which I think is a huge plus on the pinz. I do like the larger, more roomier rear for the kids though. The ones at Linden Engineering are generally priced from $8k-12 depending on condition.

Yea, I thinks its a bit of a stretch. Most of the cars with that motor get 17-22mpg. The best I ever got with my volvo was 12mpg but I might have been able to do better. Doubtful, but might have been possible.
