That reminds me a couple pictures I took in France in 2004 while stuck in traffic due to an accident. The attached part even has its own axle.

That's a Rando Car variant, which was actually manufactured in France. It (very securely) attaches to the car at three points iirc.

Quite useful when demounted too.
