Wanted: Global Expedition Camper, or a good start to one

Chuckles!

Observer
This is copied and pasted from the "Vehicles" forum, because the activity is great over there but this is the real forum for campers. (ok ok, and trailers):

"Hello all, welcome to my thread as I have just traded in my lurker status for membership in this fine forum :) I have been searching for my vehicle for over a year now, driven a few nice rigs, and made an (unsuccessful) offer on one in the UK. After missing a stellar opportunity on craigslist last week, I'm taking a more pro-active approach and sending out the all-call for long-distance rigs.

I search this website (of course), horizons unlimited, craigslist, eBay motors, mobile.de, mascus.com, and random google rabbit holes. I have learned that there are some amazing vehicles out there, with the right specs at the right price. But you have to be in the right place at the right time. Instead of constantly scanning for vehicles that are already advertised for sale, I would like to go after vehicles that *might* be for sale, or looking to sell in the next few months.

So if you know anyone with a nice rig that's finishing up a trip, or getting tired of the build, or moving to a different style of vehicle, let me know! I am a motivated buyer, looking to motivate a seller ;)

Here is the basic idea of vehicle that I am looking for: a home for myself and a partner for 4-5 years of traveling across 6 continents and their associated climates and road conditions.

- Probably around 18-24' length, up to 11' tall, standing height inside for my 6'2" self
- Toilet, shower, fridge, stove, air+water heating
- Diesel preferred, but will motor-swap a desirable gasser
- 4x4 preferred, but will convert a desirable 2wd
- Manual transmission preferred
- KISS methodology (Keep It Simple, Stupid): fixed camper preferred to pop-up, 1980's mechanical drivetrain systems preferred to modern electronic controls, diesel+solar preferred to propane & generators
- Permanent bed preferred, long enough to fit my 6'2" self
- Cab-to-cabin pass-through preferred
- Hula girl preferred over fuzzy dice :p

I'm considering anything from a pickup+truck camper on the smaller end, to a Unimog on the upper end. I have free time and skills to modify a camper accordingly if it needs a different drivetrain or interior, so chassis/project deals are welcome too. Not interested in trailers, cruisers/rovers with RTT's, or Winnebagos. No rock crawling or 70mph highway blasts on the itinerary, mostly touring across lands less traveled. I would guesstimate 50% paved roads, 40% gravel/dirt/trail "roads", and 10% off road.

And of course the budget, right now I'm searching in the $20-40k range.

All righty then, let's see what happens! Send me a reply, private message, anything with some leads. Have a great day, thanks for your help!

- Brad"
