Warn M8000 solenoid pack clicking on install

Installed a new Warn M8000 winch.

Set-up:

Solenoid pack relocated to bottle jack position in engine compartment using two mount points to mount to south-side headlight housing.

Relocated controller hook-up to the grill. Spliced 16 gauge brown wire for cut off/on switch to winch. Works perfectly fine. Solenoid ground 16 gauge wire (red w/eyelet) to underbody of winch motor.

Winch pulls in very weak and automatic/repetitive clicking noise in solenoid pack. Will not line out.

After contacting Warn, a rep e-mailed me and said based on my set-up and relocations, I must take the red 16 gauge wire/eyelet and connect it directly from the controller plug-in to the negative battery post.

I proceeded with this direction to no avail. same clicking noise and maybe even slightly weaker charge on the line in.

I must be missing something here or wired something wrong.:banghead:

Please help.

Not sure, but what about the wire sizes? If they are too long you could be getting a significant voltage drop. Just a guess and an assumption that it's wired correctly.

16 gauge...same wire size as what was used in original manufacture. Longest runs in the smaller solenoid pack wiring (16 gauge) verged on 3 1/2-4 ft.

2 gauge power and grounds roughly 5 1/2 ft.

that doesn't mean you aren't dropping voltage and current over the extended length of the wiring (like 'I Leak Oil' suggested). go to a smaller gauge wire (try 12- or 10-gauge). sounds like you're not getting enough juice to/from the solenoid.

where are your power/ground wires connected? did you go straight to battery for both power and ground? what kind of connection did you use, if you lengthened the power/ground cables?

I'm having the exact same problem with my new M8000. Did you ever figure out what was wrong?
