??? Warn Winch install on an ARB bumper...

Well... My Warn M12000 winch is due to arrive tomorrow. That is good news. Bad news is, it might be a bigger problem to install than I thought. My 1996 LR Disco II, came with a non-SRS, ARB bumper installed.

Question is.... will I have to remove said bumper, to mount my new winch? I am imagining the difficulty of reinstalling the heavy ARB bumper with the addition of the very heavy WARN M12000. Yes, I have the heavy duty OME springs, front and rear...

Has anyone done this? Bumper on the vehicle? Bumper off the vehicle? Pros? Cons? I can't tell by looking, if it is even possible to install the winch (due to it's size) from the bottom up between the body and ARB bumper. Any help is much appreciated...

David,

You might actually have a bigger issue - according to ARB's site and a few others the M12000 will not fit on a Disco II. M10k is the biggest that will fit.

I hope I'm wrong :(

Man-O-man...

Well...

I hope my wife will like it on her Disco Series II... (Course I will have to buy another bumper and hers never leaves the pavement)...

I hope you are wrong too. Guess I should have checked better before I leaped on it.

Question for NIC

Nic,

I love the trailer that you are redesigning. I can't afford an Adventure Trailer, but I do have the skills to remodel one. It would be great, if I could find one like yours, to start with. Are they readily available? Sources?

Thank you... Is it possible to hijack my own thread? :shakin:

Yup you just did!

Let us know how the install goes. I think you are going to have to take the bumper off to install it properly.

Thanks Will

Thanks Will, I will... (why does that sentence sound funny).

One of my strongest friends is arriving for a three day visit on Monday. Soon as I have enough beer in him... We will start the install.

Too bad I can't use my new winch to hold up my new winch, while we bolt it on..

Good idea...

My friend will be here tomorrow so suggestion arrived just in the nick of time...

It was suggested that I replace the WARN grade bolts and fasteners with stainles steel... Any thoughts pro or con?

Stainless is nice in marine climates, but do not use them in any highly loaded application. They have the equivalent strength of a Grade 2 bolt, or worse. Most likely Warn supplied Grade 8 bolts.
If you absolutely need to use stainless hardware you need to up-size them significantly. Otherwise use a healthy dose of Anti-Seize on the threads.
