Was this the inspiration for the Tacoma Truckhouse ?

I just this morning stumbled across this old story from Road &Track in 2021, while killing time online this morning and read of what seems like the inspiration for the Tacoma Truckhouse integrated camper written up earlier on Expo. This SEMA show stopper (complete with the buttugly graphics) was more than just a CGI mock-up. Interestingly, this R&T article appeared exactly one year ago?

“The Tacozilla is the overlanding camper truck of our dreams turned real. Unveiled by Toyota at SEMA in 2021, it uses a Tacoma TRD Sport as a base for a tiny mobile home mounted to the rear half of the frame. There's also upgrades for traveling off the beaten path and even a splash of retro cosmetic mods.”

“The Tacozilla is based on a Tacoma TRD Sport, though the team at Toyota Motorsports Garage has modified the platform significantly. The camper’s chassis was designed in-house, as the Tacoma’s frame wasn’t up for the job at hand. While it could have been possible to make a camper without a dedicated frame, the team wanted the rear compartment to be comfortable enough to stand in for people nearing the six-foot mark. The truck’s suspension also provides two additional inches of clearance over the standard units, bolstered by large 33-inch General Tire Grabber X3 all-terrain tires.”

I may be a bit late to the dance here, if this story already appeared last year on Expo, but one fun advantage of being my advanced age is a having challenged brain that continually allows me to enthusiastically discover “new” stuff everyday, even if I recently had seen it all before previously!
