Waste of time,or not.

SOOOO, I came a across a great deal on a rebuilt set of mini truck Toyota axles IFS rear end and all. Iam still in the stages of building up my disco. Question is it worth it to swap these in or not. I know the rear has to be of set so I am not sure how to deal with that. But I would get stronger stock axles and loads of cheap after marking parts is all I am thinking.
THOUGHTS??

You wanna switch to IFS?

Check out the Land Rover section on Pirate4x4.com -- they do these kinds of swaps all the time, and Toy axles are very popular with that crew. Never seen anyone do an IFS swap though, not sure why you'd want to.

are you talking about the IFS toyota V6 rear 3rd member. if so yeah thats a great option to install in the rover.

Oh boy, guess I gotta explain this a little better to the none toyota crowd lol. I have owned/wheeled toyotas all my life so i know these trucks well. I would be swapping a solid front axle and the wider IFS rear end from an 86 and up. But maybe I should take this to pirate4x4. And no not swapping in just the V6 3rd,wanna swap in the whole rear axle.
Thanks

Yeah, that's a swap that will get loads of support and positive commentary on PBB ;)

You want to swap independent suspension from a lighter GVW truck into a Disco.

And you're asking on an Expedition site?

Why again?

If you're really sold on the Toyota bits, just get the diff swap bits and stronger axles / CV's from Rovertracks and be done....e-lockers too if you wanna get all wild and crazy :)

I gotta ask- are you going to run >37" tires? If not, why not go HD Rover stuff from Keith or Bill? I have run 35s for 15 years on my Rovers, and never a problem on some pretty nasty stuff. Just saying, KISS principal should prevail...

IFS are prone to fail, too many moving parts that do not flex well or take the torque

Oh man you guys are crazy!!! When I say IFS rear, what i mean is this: From the early 80s to 85 toyota mini trucks came with solid front axle and narrow track rear axle. BUT in 86 when they switched to an IFS front. The rear axle had to be made wider to match the width of the front IFS. Follow me so far lol, anyway a popular swap is to take the WIDER REAR axle from a IFS truck and replace your narrow rear axle, plus you can then also find the V6 3rd. That is why we call it an IFS rear axle.
Hope that all made sense. Anyway just forget the whole thing lol. I think your right the keith rovertrack axles are my best bet.

I have a rear elocker to go this exact route. Called Keith last friday to order axles, waiting for him to call me back.

Yeah was just thinking that would be a cheaper options doing the mini truck swap, but in the long run I guess it wont be.

Just thinking if I wanna rear gear and and go with HD axle it will cost a bit. I looked at the new Ashcroft HD gears and they are like 400 bucks a set thats killer. Oh well guess thats what I get for playing with a land rover lol
