Water options

So Im building this trailer. My first impulse is to do what I have always done, mount 2 wtr jerry cans on the trailer and one on the mog. But I know there has got to be a better system. I looked at the AT wtr tank but just cant see paying $500 for a plastic tank. What are you guys using? Im looking for a 10-20 gallon option besides cans. This could of been posted in the trailer section but Im open to all options even mounting of the vehicle. Thanks

My trailer has a 38 gallon, 3/8" welded poly tank between the frame rails to the rear of the axles. It is completely covered n the bottom with an 1/8" powder coated steel skid plate that extends from the front center rail to the rear (tailgate) rail. It has a rear stainless fill pipe, rear gravity spigot, and a on demand pump with a valve at the side of the tongue box. I can go a couple weeks - including the occasional shower, dishwashing, etc. I also carry a length of garden hose for filling or pumping to the radiator, if needed.

Wow that is a killer setup, you have any pics?

I don't really know what your long term intentions are, i.e. how long you need between fills, your consumption and where you can access water for refill. I have a Disco and an Oryx trailer from SA. I had a 2mm wall custom SS water tank made up for the Oryx that fits in front of the axle; $900 so that wasn't cheap but it holds a 100 ltr and has proven to be bullet proof plus no water taint, low C of G etc.

Separately I have a 404 MOG and I am fitting a tank between the frame that will be situated to the rear of the standard muffler under the tray . Probably 100 Ltr, plus I have a rack for 3 x 20 ltr Jerrys on the LH side in front of the battery box and a further 20 Ltr in the galley compartment. For real back country travel the Jerry can is still the best option as any suspect water only contaminates 20 Ltr at a time, and any tank failure only looses ... etc. I only fill what I need when we do short trips so not carrying surplus weight.

The MOG tank hasn't been finalised wrt material. I'd take a std poly tank if I could find one the right size to fit the space, otherwise it'll be another custom job. Except for the inaccessibility, I'd stick with the jerrys. Super cost effective option compared with any other choice.

Not of the tank set-up. I'll try to shoot some if interested.

This tank weighs a lot when full, so I normally don't fill it until I am near the jump off point. The weight is to the rear of the axle, so it tends to help offset the weight of the tongue box, dual batteries, tools and cargo that is forward of the axle. Tongue weight on this trailer is probably 250 lbs., even though I seldom load my trailer to even 1000 lbs. It tows well when the tank is full. It was fabricated by an RV tank manufacturer in Hollister, CA.

I like the extra weight down low.
