Water storage solution

Funny I asked about bladders in another thread and then found this....

You might check at a swimming pool supply store. There are some heavy coated water bags with fill caps built in that are simply used as weights to hold pool covers in place. They hold about 3 gal each and can be stacked. The would form to a variety of cavities or nooks. They are about 2' long, 10" wide and about 8" high when filled, but they could hang over a rail or stand up if something were holding them in place.

I think they would be easy to clean out as well. :snorkel:

I don't know anything about the pool bladders. I do know the military bladders are super tough and made for drinking water. Mine have ridden many rough miles laying in floorboards, truck beds, and now hanging from my spare. Never had one leak. They are rubber reinforced with cord almost like a tire, just not nearly as thick. They also have nylon rope handles on both ends and the holes they go through have grommets. I do replace the O-ring in the cap yearly just because. They are about 75 cents at ACE hardware. The spout is very easy to operate with one hand also.

Question for the owners of the Swiss 5gal bags -

Will the bags hold up if they were inside a vehicle or do they need to lay flat?

I have hung them, laid them in the floorboards and truck beds, and on roof racks with no leaks. They are very tough and not picky about their position. The one in the first pic of this thread has been hanging there for almost 4 months (except for being taken down to be filled) with no problem.

I have used these bags for a while. I could never get the rubber taste out but they are perfect for shower water at the end of the day when left outside in the sun.

I can't imagine anything much tougher than those Swiss water bladders. I've had one for 15 years and it has been kicking around scout camps, hunting camps, and everywhere else for the entire time.

I see you can buy 'portable showers' which are basically black water bladders you leave in the sun to heat up. Basically the same thing, but I can't imagine them being as durable as the Swiss ones.
