I have seen those models but they stick out so far and I wanted to mount in the cab of my truck. I was thinking down under the dash but that might be a knee knocker. Perhaps I will just go get one and duct tape in place for some trials.

I have seen these and they are currently my first choice . I think I might be able to put them under the dash on along side the center console. It would be for a laptop and other chargers.

Our Airstream camper has a single outlet on the side with a screw on cap with a gasket. Only sits about 3/8 prone of the side and has a chain on the cap so you don't loose it.

There was a outdoor lamp (think porch light) that had a matching thread collar.

Just can't seem to find them. Did find the lamp:

I have seen them at Wal-Mart similar to your picture. I don't remember if it was in the automotive or boating section.

In the footwell of a vehicle, I'd be worried about the back of the socket getting wet, especially if the inverter is energised whilst the vehicles moving!

I had a close call once with a 2.5kva inverter when I got swept off of a crossing - the inverter got wet, but luckily I didnt get shocked!
