Closure's are happening everywhere too. In SoCal, the Marines just released their proposal to take over most of Johnson Valley (King of the Hammers site), Big Bear area has slated closures of 17 miles of open trails and 33 miles historically used trails. Now all trails in BLM controlled limited use lands are CLOSED unless marked open. In the Inyo forest the USFS has closed large areas of the Whites and Glass Mountains...and many more areas too!
Our way of motorized recreation is quickly being restricted to smaller and smaller areas that are just flat roads and away from any thing remote and beautiful. In most of the USFS forests, roads and campgrounds are closing for winter closures and never reopening. Roads to the Kerman Lakes are now closed and it's a nearly 6 mile walk to get to them along a existing and historically used dirt road! How does that make sense?
Want to see how much has closed in last few years, track down a few old maps and compare to new maps of the same areas. So many roads and trails no longer are shown, but they are still there. How does this make sense?
Yes, certain with unique and unspoiled areas should be restricted, but not near as much as is being closed now.
Very sad our kids will never know the areas we have enjoyed...
