Read the bottom of the court order. It states, " These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR part 261, Subpart A." 36 CFR part 261, Subapart A, was part of the initial order back in Feb of 2012 to keep the 42 listed trails closed until the NFS proposed a solution to their failure "to meet standards and guidelines for meadow management contained in both the Eldorado National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan (LRMP) and the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (SNFPA)." NFS submitted their proposal back on March 14. The court order you linked was the official, "official" court order that both parties agreed on. Dumb that they would close the trails until another order "officially" closes the trails but so is the way of the government of CA. I do not mean to be a fun suck, just trying to help. You obviously did not know. Just trying to inform so nobody gets in trouble. I am part of a group that has adopted a trail that is on the closure list and we just got the greenlight from our ranger to conduct a trail repair and inspection. I , as well as many others have been involved with the NFS to keep these closures from becoming permanent closures.

GHOSTFJ is right. I am a member of the club that has adopted the Strawberry Trail (Gold Hills Posse 4x4 Club) and I can assure you that the trail is closed. It did not open this year following the winter closure so it was closed when you were there. Here's a map of a bunch of other closed trails in the area: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5364201.pdf

There is a lot of work going into getting these trails open again. Here's more reading than you probably ever wanted: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1055643

Closure's are happening everywhere too. In SoCal, the Marines just released their proposal to take over most of Johnson Valley (King of the Hammers site), Big Bear area has slated closures of 17 miles of open trails and 33 miles historically used trails. Now all trails in BLM controlled limited use lands are CLOSED unless marked open. In the Inyo forest the USFS has closed large areas of the Whites and Glass Mountains...and many more areas too!

Our way of motorized recreation is quickly being restricted to smaller and smaller areas that are just flat roads and away from any thing remote and beautiful. In most of the USFS forests, roads and campgrounds are closing for winter closures and never reopening. Roads to the Kerman Lakes are now closed and it's a nearly 6 mile walk to get to them along a existing and historically used dirt road! How does that make sense?

Want to see how much has closed in last few years, track down a few old maps and compare to new maps of the same areas. So many roads and trails no longer are shown, but they are still there. How does this make sense?

Yes, certain with unique and unspoiled areas should be restricted, but not near as much as is being closed now.

Very sad our kids will never know the areas we have enjoyed...

Slightly related article below. Money that was *supposed* to be used for PURCHASING land for OHV use has been held up...to to the tune of $25+ million.

"Parks has a culture of preservation as opposed to recreation," said Eric Lueder, who was removed from the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission by a state Senate committee earlier this month. "They don't want people using the land unless they're hiking or bird watching."

Elizabeth Goldstein, president of the California State Parks Foundation, a nonprofit advocacy group, said no one is trying to slight off-roaders.

"We do not pick between our children here," she said. "This is a great park system because it's responsive to many different audiences."

really, you don't "pick between [y]our children"? I'm sorry but, given that choice of words, color me skeptical, Ms. Goldstein.

Many of the idiots managing the park lands have the_same_personal_agenda and honestly, I don't know what point there is working with them vs. working to get them & their kind OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT.
Anyways, clearly not the place to get political; pardon my candor.

Yeah, you got that right: what an embarrassment that we keep voting the same ************** to our state and federal legislature.
