Went with the Legend HCx

Hey Guys,

I went ahead and bought the Garmin Legend HCx....It came in a bundle pack with the City Navigator DVD (can be used as a normal turn by turn gps), windshield mount, and many other accessories.

Got it at Best Buy for $189. The City Navigator Maps actually has some off road trails like the Bradshaw and the Mojave Road (Old Government Road).

Decided to go with this one because of the ability to back track in case I get lost, the ease at which I can use topo maps, city driving friendly, hiking friendly, price, and the fact that it is geocaching friendly. Looking forward to talking this camping and out into the wild.

I have the CX, which is 1 model year behind the HCx. I like it alot. The key is to have the map upgrades. Without it the GPS is pretty useless. I have Canada Topo and the Mapsource planning program. I want to get the City Nav like what you've got. What a great price!!

Had a chance to use this out in the wilderness over Thanksgiving. I was very impressed. It worked normally under the tree line and in deep canyons. For a first time GPS this is great. Would highly recommend this!

I just bought one myself but UPS man has not been here yet, I was wondering what topo would be good to by for that gps.

The new topos by Garmin look pretty dang good. But I don't have any experience with Topo maps as far as my GPS. Can anyone chime in on this?

I have the same unit and so far really like it. I've used it on a variety of outtings over the last year+.

The topos? Not all that great. By the time you zoom in far enough to engage the topo detail, you can only view a teeeeeny area. It's like looking at a map through a paper towel tube.
