M416 copy from Canada the M101CDN is modeled after the 416. Much newer as they were all built in the early 90's. They too are becoming very unobtainium and prices are going up, but you might be able to get one for $1500-2000. Lid will set you back another $800-900 unless you fab yourself.

Diamond Deluxe can build you an aluminum diamond plate tub the same size as the M416 tub (I'd make it a little taller though) with a lid for about $1000 +/- (don't quote me; contact them for an exact price). Put it on a home-built frame or a modified Harbor Freight HD 4x8' frame and you're ahead of the game. Just saying....

I would keep an eye out on Craigslist. I bought 4x6 trailer for $550. Built a lid for an extra $100, found Tires and rims that match my truck size for another $50. At this point it is usable to take all for under a grand. I do plan to add more but it will come as I find the deals. A this point it is usable. Prior to this I never used a welder. My neighbor had one and showed me and I practiced a bit. Am I good at it no, but a grinder works magic. I do plan on taking it to a welder for items that I feel are out of my scope and can be dangerous like messing with the hitch.

I went to a local trailer builder and he wanted $4,000 for a simple no lid trailer with over-sized tires. It looked nice but not for the price.

It's hard to find a M416 that not rusted out. There a few kits on eBay metal and fiberglass for <750 for the body .Even new trailers for $2500 are so .
