What Camper I should consider?

Okay, I’m looking to get a camper and truck, and after much consideration, and advice from all of you, I’ve decided to get a deleted pre-DEF Ram 3/4 or 1 Tom truck. I’m looking for a light-ish camper, and know nothing about them. I’d like to spend no more than $10k.
My crew is myself, my wife, our 18 month old daughter, and our husky mutt. All told we are a little less than 400 lbs all said and done...we are a small people.
We will be using the camper mostly for weekends going into the mountains for rick climbing adventures.
Of course I’ve been most into Four Wheel Campers, but what else should I consider?
I’m sure there are a lot of opinions about brands and I’d love to hear them all. Cheers

This was our last rig. 1999 Ram 2500 CTD short bed, with a Fleetwood Pegasus 18ft.
We spent one stretch of 10 months in this, and a few other here and there while saving up for that big trip.
Picture was taken in Bishop CA where we spent a month bouldering.

I would consider a one ton Dodge. I have a 3/4 ton 2003 and with a shell and lumber rack and a bunch of camping gear I am already overweight and so is my truck.

If you have a $10k budget you are probably out of the price range of even a used Four wheel camper unless you are willing to buy an older one and fix it up. The better ones outside the newer ones and Four Wheel Campers are Outfitter, Northlands and Hallmark. I am leaning towards older Hallmarks myself.

Thanks! Ya, I’m not opposed to fixing one up. I have a metal and woodworking business that I own, so work like that is in my scope. I found one in Seattle, I’m in Portland, but I think it’s a little over priced. But I’ll keep searching. I have about6 months to find one.

Before we decided to buy new we looked at bunch $3000 campers. If you get a truck with an 8" bed you can probably find a cheaper camper. If I had an 8" bed we would have bought used.

Tacollie has a really good point about how getting a long bed gives you a LOT more camper options. There might be more used FWC and ATC campers out there in shortbed, but not the others.

I have an 8ft. Northstar. It's more comfy and roomy than a FWC but bigger and not as offroadable (although people do). We couldn't fit our family of 4 and dog (and our stuff) in a FWC. (Actually we're starting to pack a tent for the kid and dog now anyway, but we CAN all sleep in it if the weather is bad enough.)
