What causes 4wd dash light symbol to blink all the time (1996)?

What would cause the four-wheel-drive light in the dash cluster to continually blink? 1996. AFAIK the 4WD works fine and so does the locker. Thanks.

Dirty sensors if the 4WD functions properly.

Have your transfer case checked.

I'm the guy that 'checks' this stuff, I haven't bought the vehicle yet. It's one I've looked at that interests me. Is there just a screw-in switch that flakes out, or is there some sort of interface module that craps out? 4x4 engages properly.

There are sensors that detect the engagement of 4WD, the center diff, and which range is selected. They feed into the transmission controller.

I have a 2000 Dakar Edition, I had the same problem, it was the 4x4 sensor located behind the power steering reservoir. also my 4x4 system was like trying to engage, the problem disappeared changing this sensor my friend.
