Hi Guys,

I stumbled upon this on my local craigslist.

Is it worth it as a project? I emailed the guy about giving me better pictures, and I'll post them if he responds. I figure if the entire thing is shot, I can probably get 200 bucks from the junk yard.

Has anyone had problems with the white smoke from an 96 Disco? If it's the head gasket, how much would I be looking at in parts?

It probably needs a new block. Nine out of ten times this issue gets misdiagnosed as headgaskets when in reality, the block is cracked behind a cylinder liner. It could be a bad intake gasket as well, but it is best to err on the side of caution!

Worst case you replace the block with a Will Tillery special and you've got a new truck for $1500

I'm with Ben. Go look at the truck. If it is a nice truck, then get a motor from Tillery. You'll have a nice truck for a small price. :smiley_drive:

just make sure you're not going to be polishing a turd if you have plans to dump a few thousand into it for a new motor and mods, you deserve to start with a clean, rust-free truck that's been decently maintained up until the point of engine failure.

well, it's true ... maybe even after a new engine, a running $1,500 turd is still a turd. :elkgrin:

waiting to jump on deals like this by keeping your eyes open in the usual places is a great way to go. just be patient and check them out thoroughly, and don't feel pressured to jump on it if it's not the right truck. you don't want one of these.
