What hose is this? Jeep's sprung a leak!

It's the hose with the electrical tape bandage that got me home. I believe it's supposed to go to the heater? Not sure though. It doesn't look factory. Pictures are how it's routed. I'm thinking the previous owner did it as a fix to either a leaky core, or just because the climate control doesn't turn on low or high speed.

If it just goes to the heater core, would I be safe to just cap them off somehow? That hose isn't working well, as it not only sprung a leak, I can feel it being worn through where it touches the valve cover.

It's a 2.5 engine in a 1991 YJ in case y'all don't know.

Generic heater hose. Yes, it used to go to your heater core. I'd guess the heater core started leaking, rather than fix it the previous owner by-passed it.

The question is, dare I just loop the hose, or fix the heater core? :D

I thought that was what it was. I'll start seeing what's the better option. I don't think the fan speed control is working right now either.

Edit, might as well start fixing what needs fixing, no need to half *** it, i'll start with a new core and diagnose what's wrong with the fan control.

No harm in keeping the hose looped like that if a heater core isn't high on your list of priorities.

Put a new 'loop' on it for now.

The heater loop is also a bypass for when the T-stat is shut, so you don't want to just cap off the ends.

XJ heater cores are a pain to change, plan on a full day for it.

XJ? I have a YJ. I've read it's an hour tops. I don't even have to pull out the old hoses from the core! :p

Picked up a core and hoses today from the local parts store. I'll put it in this weekend. Then I can test drive it and see if anything else decided to spew Hulk Juice.

It looked like the whole bottom of the water pump was leaking it's guts out!
