What is the best Winch option for 05 DC Tundy????

Brute Force is going to be fabing up my F/R bumpers and I am tossing around the idea of going with a hitch mount type rather than a permanent front mount. Reason is because 99% of my driving is road or service road however when in Baja the idea of having a winch and recovery gear is very appealing, the silt beds are white knuckle to say the least, and there is not a lot of help available in many parts!! Pros/cons of a hitch mount? Real world advise is greatly appreciated :coffeedrink:

***EDIT what weight rating should I get? 8k 10k ??? I have never had a winch and know very little about them

I will go with a hitch mount on mine for the versatility. I've been in a lot of places where getting out going back was the best option. As for what winch to go with I don't know and will be looking at thr responses

Is the 10k overkill for the Tundra the price difference between the 10 and 8 is not that much? Warn or Super Winch, are there others to consider? Synthetic or regular? Seriously, this stuff gets overwhelming, good thing I live in COLO:ylsmoke:

I would definitely recommend a 9.5 to 10.5k winch. An 8 isn't going to cut it w/o a snatch block, and then you're looking at lots more gear ($) to make it work. I would hands down go synthetic for what you're doing- the weight savings are worth while. Front receiver winch (multi-mount) has several advantages-
1. 100# less weight on the nose of the truck
2. Pull back with it- of course, you'll need rear power cables for that, and that's a lot of copper.
3. You can bolt a cheap receiver adapter on a trailer and use it to load all sorts of good stuff.
there are draw-backs...
1. Since there are more connections between the battery and he winch, there is an inherent voltage (performance loss)
2. Approach or departure angles are not as good if the winch is riding on either end.
3. If it isn't in either receiver, that heavy thing still needs to live somewhere- like another receiver in the bed. Otherwise its a dangerous projectile.
4. If the nose of the truck is down in a ditch of some sort, it may not be possible to install it in that receiver.

As for brands- I'm partial to Warn, but whatever fits your budget/performance intersect.
