What kind of oil are you running in your 3.8L Montero?

Post what brand, type, weight oil you use in your 3.8L Montero, and what kind of climate you use it in.

I've been told 5w20 but that seems like such a narrow temperature range, especially for a hot climate...?

I was running 5w30 castrol full synthetic. But.... when I had my timing belt changed I had them change the oil and having specified that I wanted synthetic I read my service record annnnndddd....bulk oil!!! I was a little mad. So its really hard to tell what 5w30 is lubing my engine. I live ********** dab in the middle of the east coast. Its usually 20to-10 with wind chill in the winter, and 90-100 at its hottest in the summer.

I believe we run 10w40 (will update in case I remembered wrong, will be at my car in a little bit), mainly because it's pretty warm here usually and 5w30's top range was on the low end for the summer weather here in SoCal.

The manual should specify the proper oil. Mine gives you the recommended oil for various temperature ranges.
