Ever since I got my jeep the shifter looks like this...

I have been to the dealer several times to try and order the parts but they can never tell me what part I need. (The local dealer is a Dodge dealer who also has a few Jeeps...small town) Can someone with a 5 speed TJ (mine is a 99) tell me what I am missing here? I am looking for the part that keep the shifter boot in place but I have no idea what the part looks like and all of my TJ driving friends have automatics.

You need

a shift boot bezel. You can find them from Quadratech, 4WD Hardware, etc. There might even be a sponsor that has them.

Good question, I have the same problem with my 2000 TJ. The retaining ring cracked in the cold of the winter. I've been wondering what it is called too.

Make sure you price it at places other than the dealer. Around here "cosmetic" parts like that are very dear at the dealers.

I drilled 4 small holes and used zip ties to keep mine on. You can still get your hand under the sides to tighten ties or cut them off if needed for maintenance.

I find the little plastic retainer snaps when its gets below -20
