I'm seriously thinking of getting a Discovery 4 HSE SDV6 Black Edition.....I've already got a Series 2a that doesn't get much use these days, but which I'll keep and a 2010 RR Sport 5.0 Supercharged for town use. My exploration vehicle has been a ZG (ZJ Export buildmade in Graz, Austria) which is just gotten too old and has a lot of age related annoying little problems, e.g. A/C not cold enough - yes it's been serviced and looked at many times.....the anti-theft system is hyper neurotic and regards me with suspicion too often.....some doors not always lockin/unlocking remotely.....a rear window not always wanting to go up or down......the drivers window reversing its Auto-down function to Auto-up and then ratchting till you press the down button briefly or the whole window and door and lock control on driver's door going on strike till you remove and replace its auto-resetting breaker - which HAS been replaced! problems which are not major but which drive me mad and can't seemingly be fixed! Enough ranting!....I don't feel the actual need to justify the purchase of a Disco 4 - I have rationally examined the available field and think it's the best choice for me.
I would need to fit a long range tank- 83 litres is plain silly.......and relocate the spare to a Kaymar rear bumper and spare holder....an ARB bullbar and a winch.....an LR Expedition Roof Rack and tailgate access ladder.........basically.
I'm aware of the good range of equipment available for the Disco 4, but as far as I'm aware the smallest diameter rim possible is 19" (unless I buy bespoke wheels of 18" available from a company in the UK. Standard tyres are 255/55x19". ..... I prefer to run an "E" Range (i.e 10 ply rated) tyre on my exploration cars as I do a lot of desolate, desert and gibber plain type terrain which requires low pressures and good immunity to punctures, especially in the sidewalls.
Currently my Jeep runs Cooper ST Maxx in 245/75x16 "E" Range, my 2a runs old Goodyear Wrangler TG in 7.50x16" "E" Range and my Range Rover Sport runs Continental 275/40x21" ZR .....definetly not a tyre for the bush!!!
Can you fit ,say a 245/60 or /65 on the 19" rims if you lift the car's suspension using "Johnstone Rods" ???........What the "best" size going towards a high profile AND a higher ply rating????
I would appreciate some well experienced advice from Disco 3 and 4 owners......
Many thanks!
