I was just curious what would be the cost of putting new engine for 1997 montero LS, or just go with over haul. some body put "STOP IT" in motor instead of raditor, and now engine nocks. what woule you do to fix it? he wants 1500 $ for it. body and interior is in good shape.
Thx

It depends. Do you mean a full replacement using a new engine? That would be thousands of dollars. Probably close to $5000 or more for the engine and not including the installation labor costs.

If you mean a used engine, then it depends on the engine condition. Prices in the US range from $350-3800 (price obtained via car-part.com).

Is it worth it? Depends on you really and how much do you want to keep your mitsu up and running.

Thx, offroader. I got an oppurtunety to purchase 1997 LS , body and interior seems to be in good shape , however the owner put "STOPIT" in engine instead of radiator. aperently he had raditor leak. base on your info I don't think it is worth even putting used engine, or even overhaul it since he wants 1500$ for it. is there any way to undo what he did safely without going through taking engine apart? or put new or used engine?

thx
