What's the real world gas milage for a 2015-16 Explorer?

We're due for a new vehicle and were liking the new explorer. My goal is to get an all wheel/4 wheel drive that gets 20mpg on the highway. I think the window sticker says 16/20. Can I realistically get 20 on the road?

Our Honda Pilot's window sticker read 17/21 when we got it. We've rarely hit 21mpg and average 16-18 mixed driving.
I'm going to say no.
Subaru's on the other hand do real well. My sis can get 33 mpg out of her outback on the highway
It'll be interesting how the longterm reliability is on the Ecoboosts. I suspect the turbos and associated hardware that accompany them will be costly to repair.

We looked at the Subaru also but it was too small. I tow occasionally too and the Explorer comes with a tow package. Got to have room for two 50 pound dogs and room for shopping.

If it's an ecoboost, and I know this isn't a great answer but!, turbo vehicles historically respond exceptionally well to tuning, in both power and efficiency.

Which engine are you looking at? The new 2.3L is killer on the highway. I've seen more than 20MPG. The 3.5L is a rocket and gets right around 20MPG, depending on your driving style.

Wow, they gave up a ladder frame, low-range T-case and towing capacity for not much gain in MPG, huh? Disappointing but not surprising.
.
Seems to me the new unibody crossovers over the past several years don't really get any better MPG than the BOF SUVs they replaced.
