wheel spacer opinions

I just had a 2.5" suspension lift, and I have always been told to go as wide as you did tall to keep the vehicle more stable. I like the Rubicon wheels, and so I would like to use spacers, but I am concerned with the possibility of shearing off the bolts because it is a daily driver.

What do you think?????????

I would say no on spacers. I have friends that run them and don't have problems, but its just one more thing to worry about, fail, or break.

Wheels are not that expensive, especially if you sell your old wheels. Personally I like AEV or Hutchinson Wheels ( best, but NOT cheap! )

No problems on my son's YJ (rear axle), after the first "incident" that is. You NEED to use Loc-Tite.

I know of two people who both lost a front wheel from spacer use.

If your not going much wider on tires you could continue using your current wheels.

With this being a daily driver these kind of problems are what worries me. Yes, I do plan on going with something along the lines of 35/12.50's, but that is way down the road. By then I will have broken down and purchased wheels. I was just considering this for a fix in the mean time.

i've had some on my commander for 2 years without a problem.

torque them properly and you won't have any problems. mine are hubcentric, 1.5" spacers from trailsport.

i think most problems come from people who are idiots and cannot install parts correctly.

If you just need a tad more clearance then spacers will probably serve you well. What exactly is keeping you from getting the right wheel/tire combo in the first place? Just money?

I recommend saving up and getting it done right. Because if you're "right," ya can't go wrong.

I have an '07 Wrangler with 2.5" of lift and running 35"x12.50"x16" and have been running wheel spacers for just over 1.5" years now (over 17k miles). It's my daily driver and I've taken it offroad a couple of times and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood).

If you have the budget, definitely get new wheels with the proper backspacing. If you want to/or have to run spacer then, I just suggest that you get top quality spacers. I've got spidertrax spacers, they're hubcentric and machined out of solid aluminum and make sure you use the included red loc-tite.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's not so much the money, as it is I don't even have 1,000 miles yet and I like the wheels. I will wind up with different wheels later. I think i will just keep things the way they are.
