wheel winch! Never saw this!

I don't know about the winch. It looks overly complicated and not very safe. I would only use it if there wasn't anything else available.

I do like the idea of that anchor. It looks pretty simple and it takes up a lot less room then my Pull-Pal.

Has anyone ever used one of those?

please enlighten us?

He'd rather just criticize and insult people.

On topic....While this seems like it would work ok for certain situations, it is definitely no replacement for a real winch. I agree with ealier comments that if you are in places that you might need this, then you need a real winch and even though it is a larger investment, a real winch is worth the extra expense.

the size is a big factor too. A bumper mounted winch is probably heavier overall (assuming it has wire rope) but it's outside the truck and doesn't occupy space used for other gear like this would. It's a pretty large and bulky kit.

I think anyone would be better served with a real winch and a pullpal.

You are right!

Military has been using that idea for years. When I was in the service in the 90's I trained to recover Hummvees using that concept. My late 60's Jeep M-715's are equipped to do the same. I think I have seen some military Land Rovers that were set up for it too.

This method has bee around long before any herein were even born is used by the military everywhere and those private citizens in the know. Military field engineer manuals section for vehicle recovery details the method.

As a sidebar, it is not uncommon to see in really remote off the beaten path areas a stationary chassis w/drive-train at idle using a driven rim w/o tire to belt drive whatever gets the job done. Perhaps, an ole Lister Petter w/monster flywheel is better but that another topic.
