Wheels and tires

The KM2s are a great tire. The only thing I didn't like was their snow capabilities. They are great off road in deeper snow, or on unplowed roads, but when the plow goes past and leaves that shiny glazed layer, I found them to be a bit scary. Toyo or Cooper MTs are siped, and I think might be better in winter.

If a sixteen inch wheel will fit over the brake rotors, I would suggest sixteens. Usually you can save lots of cash on tires and wheels compared to seventeens. Also, check CL for takeoffs. Sometimes there are great deals.

Have you heard anything about the ******** Cepek mt tire?

I have a set of ******** Cepek Mud Countrys on my '06 V8 4Runner. I have only a few miles on them, few off-highway, so not really ready to write a report yet...

But they are relatively quiet for a M/T, just like I heard before buying them, and do have more siping than most "mud-terrain" tires. However, we had such a light winter here this year I can't comment on their ice traction. They are not the most aggressive "mud" tire, but still have lots of void compared to anything less than an aggressive mudder (much more than an A/T or even a 50/50 tire like the new Cooper S/T MAXX). If they came in a 285/70R17 for my Tundra I would have purchased a second set for that truck.

They were an absolute steal several months ago through my local Discount Tire, only $200 each for a 285/75R16. Of course tires prices have been going up often, seems like every month. In that 16" 285 size they are a load-range D with a 3-ply sidewall, a perfect combination for me.

The new Goodyear MT/R-Ks are good tires (QC seems MUCH improved over their older MT/R). They're actually pretty much true to their sizes now, and still retain their good looks (even with their somewhat odd tread pattern). They are also siped (I haven't had them in snow/ice yet, so no experience to report there).

+1 on the 16" wheels if they fit. More tire, less rim, less money. Cooper muds have been getting great reviews.

maybe take a look at some goodyear duratrac's? The raptor crowd is loving them for mud/snow/street, supposed to be a great compromise while not sacrificing much.

Check out the new Cooper ATP (not at3 or atr) exclusively available at DiscountTire.

I just put them on my K3500. It looks pretty aggresive and ride real nicely.
