....I'll play on the bigger boats. For the most part, I enjoy racing one-designs around the buoys. I tell people that "I hate sailing, but I like making sailboats go fast". So, when an old Lido14 friend and competitor called to tell me he needed crew for a wet and blustery weekend........I couldn't say no.
I raced the first round of the Bogart Series out of BCYC last weekend on "Problem Child".... Dan Rossen's B32 rocket.
We were back at the club twenty minutes before the second place boat. We took second, and being a one-design guy I struggle with this whole "handicap" racing idea. Oh well, we had fun with some great sailing weather. With wind to 25 knots, going to weather was a wet experience and we avg'd 15-17 knots. After turning at the top mark we flew an aso downhill and literally surfed all the way home. We spun out a couple times, but never put her on her ear. It was good to sail with Dan again, he's an awesome sailor/tactician and was one of my toughest competitors when racing against him on one-designs.
It was a blast.
