Where to mount aux fuse box and relays

So I am adding some reverse lights, an inverter, fog lights, driving lights and a few aux 12VDC plugs in the next few months. I understand the importance of fuses, relays, conduit and grounding, pretty much all the theory. What I am lacking is the experience on where to put what in a expedition vehicle. Should I keep the fuses and relays in the engine bay, or mount them behind the fold down seats in the grew cab? The inverter will of course be inside, and the rest of the wiring will run to the front and rear of the truck. Is it better to have a central location (the cab) or have everything closer to the battery (the engine bay). I would appreciate anyones real life experience on this subjuct, as I only want to do it once.

Thanks

Jon

I tend to prefer to have fuses and switches on the inside of the cab of the vehicle (just better protection) - located near the front wheel well.

However I have seen some mounted to the firewall in the engine bay.

It's a good idea to keep things high, along the top of the firewall is a good place for fuse blocks and relays. It's also easier to make additions.

Depending on how many relays and usable slots in a fuse block you intend to have, you also have to consider the gauge of wire for your distribution to the blocks and relays.

Don't forget breakers...and fusible links.

Check out the breakers half way down, very high quality and extremely important.

You'll also want to set yourself up with interchangability, nothing beats Anderson...

I have not started mine yet, small pieces yes, but not the complete project. But starting from the battery, an Odyssey PC1700, I'll be running two 0 or 4 Gauge wires, one to my amplifier installation, and one to the rear for vehicle accessories. They will terminate to Blue Sea fuse blocks. You can find them around, but DO NOT buy them from a marine outfitter, they're grossly marked up.

I'm sure others will come along with good advise as well... This should get you thinking though. :D
