Which rooftop tent would fit better on a 2001 4Runner?

Lately I have been toying with the idea of getting a roof top tent for my 4Runner.

However the roof on the 4runner is pretty narrow. And the truck is already a bit sensitive to cross wind. I don't think a big Hannibal would be a great fit - I would like something light and low profile.

I am thinking that perhaps the smallest of the Autohome Airland would be an option.

Anyone here has a 3rd generation 4Runner with a roof top tent?

Any suggestion on a specific brand/model?

Thanks

I have an 01 with the Car-Top-Tent and truthfully don't notice much of a difference on the highway (2-inch lift, 255/85/16 MT's make a bigger difference).

The biggest difference is gas mileage with the setup - probably lose 2-3 mpg on the highway. In town, however, I don't notice any difference.

Try the Oasis2 I am happy with mine ! only 40LBS It held up well in high winds and rain the first time I used while metal detecting in Nevada. I slept like a baby.

I was looking at the Columbus Carbon (Small) for my '01 4Runner. Nice aerodynamic shape, light weight (73 lbs) and plenty of room for the wife and I.

I've been using the Airland Small since 2005. Been in it lately for well over 4 months consecutively. Its amazingly comfortable ( I'm 6'1") easy to crank up and down - and keeps all your bedding inside. ( Autohome supplies the pillows too) I've had it mounted on the 80 series as well as the Tacoma.

I've had the Columbus Carbon Fiber Medium for over a year now and its super light and even easier to deploy and take down. It's fabric is a bit less breathe-able, so you have to crack open windows for air. The mattress is slightly less comfy. (IMO this size is a bit large for the vehicle)

You can feel the tents on the roof, but not to the point where its a concern.

Either tent will do well for daily use on the 4runner

A big difference between Eezi Awn style tents and the Maggiolinas is the mattress and the ability to stow bedding inside the Maggiolina.

The mattress is twice as thick as the Eezi Awn (or similar RTT) and being able to stow the bedding inside is priceless.

My next RTT will be a Maggiolina.

I totally agree.

Do you know if that also applies to the Columbus?

I am a HUGE fan of the maggiolinas, but I wanted to mention. We store ALL of our bedding in our RTT.
It consists of Two sleeping bags, two normal pillows off our bed and a flannel sheet.
It is MUY MUY comfortable.
