Who still makes oil cooler lines?

I am in need of new (or good used) oil cooler lines. The lower one on my "97 SR is leaking near the coupling/oil cooler and I thought I would just order new feed and return lines to replace the existing along with a tune-up being done. The tune-up went fine. No such luck with the oil cooler lines. Mitsu doesn't make 'em anymore according to Southwest Mitsubishi in Weatherford, TX. The local parts stores (NAPA, O'Reilly, AutoZone, etc.) don't seem to have access to them either. Anyone got any ideas other than having them made locally? Better yet, anyone have a set (that doesn't leak) they'd be willing to part with? Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

I ran into this same problem. The dealership said they didn't make them anymore. I got the part numbers for what I needed and went down to the parts counter and told them what parts I needed and gave them the numbers. He said "so this will be for 2 oil cooler lines?" I said yes, the same ones they don't make anymore. :) He said he'd have them in 2 days and I could come pick them up. There is a parts program you can download somewhere. I tried off of a different forum but it said forbidden for me. Just find the numbers and order them that way. You can always take your old lines with the connections to a tractor repair shop and they can make you a new set for less than what the dealership can sell them.

Thanks scrubber3. I do have the official Mitsu part numbers and proper names for the lines. I'll try again going to the local parts stores and give them the same. It can't hurt to try. I'm just discouraged that these are no longer available from Mitsu, however, you can still get the oil cooler itself!?:Wow1: Go figure. I may end up trying to have someone local fabricate 'em, but would much prefer to have an original set! Thanks again.

If they still make lines for my 95, they should definitely still have yours. You can always call around other dealerships and see if they will work with you and just have them mail it. I did both of my lower ones so I won't have to do it again later. The fasteners can be difficult to break loose at first, at pose a chance at bending/ breaking the upper portions of the cooler lines so be careful.

I know '97 oil cooler lines are "obsolete" according to the Mitsu dealer network. Their database is nationwide with access to inventory from every parts dept. However, you bring up a really good thought, scrubber3. I will check the stealership for the same parts using the VIN of a 1998 Monty. Perhaps that will solution this problem. I believe the '95 had the 3.0 engine which may be an issue, and my '97 has the 3.5 ltr., but perhaps the '98 will work..if they have the lines.

95's had both a 3.0l and a 3.5l DOHC engine. They went to a SOHC 3.5 in 98 iirc.

You can use the mitsu ASA program with a vehicle's vin number to cross reference parts. There's a link to the download on 4x4wire.com's mitsu tech forum along with a year/VIN number repository.

Thanks GrassCat. Those numbers did the trick! I plan to have those lines ordered and on the truck soon! Your help is very much appreciated!

Glad you found em, Im surprised they said they were obsolete, last year I needed to replace one of mine, and I called the dealer and they ordered one for me no problem (though they gave me the wrong one of the pair, I was still able to make it work, I didn't feel like making the 1hr round trip to the dealer after having to put everything back together)

Exactly, so I'm gunna order both lines and triple check the numbers to make sure I get the right parts. I still can't figure out why the dealerships show those parts as "obsolete" when u were able to find 'um. Thanks again! BTW, I'm now in the market for a new radiator for my '97 SR. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of something aftermarket due to the cost of OEM stuff.

Just be sure that it's aluminum and not completely plastic. Try to stick with the good old green antifreeze... That extended life stuff can gum up your cooling system.

Have yours re-cored. It will be better than an aftermarket one. While you're at it add another row for a few dollars more. A three core is a great upgrade. I paid around $269 to have my Gen 1 done.
