On a previous thread I explained my problem with "Death Wobble" in my 1990 Cherokee. Plenty of good advise was given and I ended up taking the front axle off and replacing just about every part as the prior thread explained.

I still suffered from the wobble but it was a much tighter version. I went through one more final balancing and alignment before I left the past week for a 5 day adventure in Western Arizona with a group of friends. On the way back one of my friends drove just in front and watched the front axle do it wobble thing at around 75 mph. They radioed me that he front right was also bouncing while it wobbled. Hmmmmm, I started thinking that the only part I hadn't checked was the shocks. They were only 10 months old and had less than 3000 miles on them.

So Yesterday I took them off and here is the condition I found them in, with the worst being the front right (passenger) side.

These were Rancho 9000RS gas shocks. I called their headquarters and all they asked was that I e-mail them a copy of my purchase order and they overnighted me two new shocks. (for once a warrantee worked the way it is supposed to!)

I install them this morning and on the test drive up to 75 mph no wobble of any kind. :wings::wings::wings::victory::victory::victory:

So add to the long list of items that can cause Death Wobble, SHOCKS!

Thanks,

Fred

I actually saw a ZJ today in one of the worst cases of DW I have ever seen. I felt horrible for the guy as I was laughing at him.

My experience with DW has been that anything on the front end that isn't right from out of balance tires to unit bearings, shocks, steering....anything at all connected to the front end can cause it.
