Hi Folks,
I am new here. New once again to Diesel engines again too I suppose. (Though I did have twin CAT 3208s in my old commercial fishing boat years many moons ago. (Actually there predecessor, the CAT 3160s, That is a 3208 before they sleeved the cylinders.
At any rate.
I am considering myself novice on a purchase I am looking to make. I am looking to purchase a Tour bus, about a 16 seater I think. with a INTL T-444E 8-cyl diesel engine, Allison Automatic Tranny. My question/ questions?. It has 300,000 thousand miles on it. Yes, its a diesel, and tour bus was probablly not drag racing, or turned on and off constantly, but. I wonder if anyone would think the milage is just a bit too high. Year is 2002 . Body looks great. My reason for the purchase.
I am making a long distance relocation of my Family, for 2-3 people, 2 seperatae locations. A series of moves will be involved I guess. Longest trip is 650 miles straight. Would be cheaper then pods, or renting trucks 3 times. Money is not growing on trees these days. (1 Reason for the mover actually.)
I will go check out the tour bus, start it, see if they will let me give it a spin.
I Imagine i could get parts or a newer diesel to match, if problems arise.
Besides the questions above as to weather 3K is too high.
Any idea on the Milage, I've seen much larger seeters claim 9/12.
Is it tough getting it re regestered to a rec vehicle (Ultimate change long term)
Idea of pricing on tossing in a newer motor if this one blows. Any thoughts on the Allison automatic Tranny?
And any BALLPARK on how high to go? I know not much to go on, but any info is greatly appreciated.
Best regards, Jerry [/B]

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
What year is the engine and I can look it up. There are also a lot of people who know their engines on www.4btswaps.com. The internationals are generally considered reliable and capable of 300K but have all sorts of little accessories etc that go wrong on one. I have been fighting one badly in my 2000 powerstroke that still isn't over (took out an injector on a 1200 mile trip I came back from yesterday). Overly complicated, I'd take a simple Cummins any day of the week over it unfortunately...

Also I'd be worried about other components as well with all those miles..

300K on Commercial Diesel really isn't that bad. If you take care of them 500K is easy to achieve..hell most 10 wheelers go close to a million miles before a rebuild.
