Us monteros are known as gen 2.5 with wide fenders. 98-2000 are gen 2.5

Your model is technically a US model, but it wasn't sold in the 48 after 1997. It continued alongside the blister fender until MY1999 when the 2nd gen was discontinued in the rest of the world.

Yes you have a model that was specific to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. It's different from US models in that it has a chromed plastic grill vs black plastic, single body color with color matched bumper corners, aluminum rims specific to the region and a few other differences. These Caribbean models were sold up to model year 2000. They appear from time to time in the US and are basically equivalent to a US model Gen 2 LS. In the US model year 2000 was last year for Gen 2.5 and Gen 3 were sold as model year 2001.
