Wildernest - FINALLY!!

I have been watching for a Wildernest camper for a couple of years now, without success. But that all changed the other day when I ran across one on Craigslist that was advertised as a canopy with a tent. No mention of Wildernest, but the really bad photo sure looked like one. It was buried in a cluttered garage and the guy wanted it out of his way.

It was only about 4 miles from my home, and when I went to look at it, it was definitely a Wildernest. The guy said his dad bought it new in 1992. Externally it appears to be in very good condition, although I was unable to open it up to check the canvas. He said the canvas had been replaced once and is in good condition other than one corner seam that needs about a 2 foot section resewn.

I bought it for $100. I figure at that price I would take a chance on not seeing the canvas. I'll be picking it up later in the week. I am a happy camper.

Patience sometimes pays off.

Congrats, I also just picked up mine for 115 bucks but with out canvas, and in my own home town in Mexico :victory:

I hope once you get a hold of yours you can put some pictures, since I am going to have to do the tent from scratch.

dang! that's a great find. I've been toying with the idea of going that direction (or flip-pac-ing it) in the new truck.

NICE FIND!! What size is it? What will it fit?

I don't know what size it is, but it has been used on a 1977 Chevy full-size pickup. It is stored in a garage where I can't really take any measurements. It is black with the two narrow vertical windows just behind the cab. I have been out of town for several days and just got back. I hope to pick it up in the next few days and will take some photos then.

I think I will probably mount it on a pickup bed trailer made from a 1974 IH pickup.

For those without the canvas - I've always thought of putting in a smaller canvas so that is would open about 75 degrees - much like a Westfalia.

There is so much canvas and poles associated with the Wildernest. I really like their design but am astonished that there isn't a more minimal expandable camper shell setup. I'd really like to see it done. If I went that route, I'd put in a sleeping canopy, like a suspended cot. There was a setup for old Land Rover that went this route.
