winch bumper

I ordered an Engo 12k winch and ive been building a bumper for it, i started building one that i was going to put the winch inside and have everything hidden then i didnt want to have to mess with getting to the clutch release or anything else so i just changed gears and made a subframe to go under the top of the bumper and bolt a a winch plate to with the winch. Here are a few pics.

Nice work. I like the mockup idea, also love to see people building their own ****. Any idea what it weighs with the winch on it?

Yea i looked around but i couldnt find a winch bumper that i liked and they were all crazy expensive so building it was the best option. Its really really heavy though probably heavier than i thought it would be after everything is probably 250 atleast with the winch on it.

wow, that is heavy, i bet the front end sagged a little when you installed it. the square tube looks like .250, how thick is all the plate?

it didnt seem to sag much and it drives the same and still takes bumps and everything fine. The tubing is .250, and the plate is 3/16

went out and got to try and winch out just pulling up some hills and stuff, at one point had the parking brake on and foot brake down and tried to pull started compressing the front end then i stopped cause im not sure how much that would require on pretty solid ground. Also did a little offroading just to make sure the weight didnt change to much.

nice! here lately i'm really digging the stock/mild lifted look on suburbans.

have you thought of adding some end caps to the bumper to fill the gap back to the fender opening? it'd really finish it off i think.

yea its just stock height right now im not going to lift it, and if i do it will be a very mild lift. I go back and forth on making some end caps, ill probably get around to it but i wanted to have it finished and on with the winch hooked up lol ill probably add the end caps and a simple guard for the grill

That looks great--nice work! :bike_rider:

It would be nice to weld on some mounts big enough for some D-rings to attach to.

yea i was going to then i changed my mine because i made it so that i could keep my original recovery hooks on the front since i made the bumper close to the same height as the stock one. I may add them later though

That turned out great! I'd like to do the same for my Bronco at some point, but will add a brush guard for our furry little friends that like to run out in front of you without warning.
