I'd guess that 75% of competitors ran a Warn.

Which Warn? I know if I were competing in a time trial I'd choose an 8274. Not because it's a Warn, but because for years it's been the fastest off-the-shelf winch you could buy. So if they were mostly running 8274's, I personally wouldn't consider that to be a testimonial for Warn.

Michael is right, at no point I have sugested that Warn isn't a quality product. I know it is a quality product. Im just wondering why the incredible bias there is towards Warn, when there are products in the US produced locally of equal quality. In my years living in the US, i noticed that most americans have a pride for buying an american product, this is the reason for my curiosity!

As you probably know, not much is completely made in the USA any longer. Assembled maybe but that's far from what I would considered "made". Again, the bias, as you call it, has more to do with advertising which is backed by a quality product. Other products might be of equal quality but not as well known. Looking through any magazine, how many ads do you see for Warn vs. Superwinch vs. Ramsey? Warn sponsors competitions, they donate raffle prizes to club events etc. They get out there and let you know who they are. The others don't do it as much or as well.

While the 8274 is rock-solid unit, everyone can agree with that. It does not lend itself well to a rock-crawler buggy application in which low profile, low weight and speed are key elements. Remember these vehicles often weigh less than 4k so even an M8000 is plenty of winch.
