Winch, front or rear?

Best practice is to install the winch on the front. ........
I have used multi-mount winches with some success which allows fitment to the front or rear and can also be easily removed and stored in a garage during the work week. The mounting system needs to be robust and pulls are restricted to just a few degrees off-center.

Yes. Since my travels are limited to weekends and the occasional weeklong vacation, and the truck is the DD to work and back grocery getter, the winch is currently a multimounted unit with extra shackles, snatch blocks,, straps and chains. Sits on a shelf in the garage for the week, and gets carried in the front receiver for travels. Extra bracing bolted to the carrier and receiver takes the wiggle out of the receiver mount, but you still have to use your brain for pulls. If we were travelling full-time or the truck was not a DD I would go ahead and do a permanent mount in a nice looking bumper.
