winch lines

last time out we had to do a bit of winching, and being as careful as possible, still managed to finally put a kink in our steel line. I'm very definitely switching over to synthetic line. Amsteel Blue seems to be the best bang for the buck, and it does get rave reviews from some very reliable sources. Viking lines are about the same but cost a lot more.. All advise is welcome,, be good be safe

Viking lines are two piece where Amsteel is one single braid. The Viking has a braided cover over the actual winch line which provides more protection and where the extra cost comes in. After using both I really can't say I'd pay the extra money for the Viking unless I was planning to use it a lot, like weekly or even more often that that.

By the way, I'm not affiliated with either, just have winches on the rescue trucks that have them. My personal winch still has whatever Smittybilt sells but it only gets used a few times per year. :)

I've been using Master Pull's superline XD for a few years. Not only a great winch rope, the customer service is excellent.

You can send your Superline in for a 'tune up' and they will inspect it/clean it/etc for free.

I have two Viking winchlines. Both have been great.

If you power out with your winch you might want a more heat resistant first section for the drum end. Here is a source for custom splicing, an ExPo supporting vendor, I think. http://www.krissplicing.com/

With any synthetic, they're soft on the hands but generate a lot of heat as they slide through your hand, for example, when guiding a line onto the drum. Good gloves solve the issue.

I'd feel confident with any product from Viking or Masterpull; they both know their business and stand behind what they sell.

I agree with the above post, Everything I have purchased from from Master Pull has been very good quality. I have only heard good about Viking.

Can attest to Kris. I have several of his products and appreciate his expertise and individual attention. Plus, his prices are good.

Ditto on Kris. If you scroll to the bottom of his page you'll see he spliced some 7/8" rope for a Yo-Yo project I was involved in :Wow1:
