Winch or not and if so sizing of one

Yes I agree, I like the hydraulic winch it's reliable and won't overheat, but like what was said if your motor dies you don't have a winch, but how long will your battery hold out without the motor running?
The all else fails back up winch that I was trying to think of was a turfer hand winch

My experience with winches must be different to others, the only times I have used mine ( on a Land Rover), it was to just provide the little bit of extra pull to get out. I have a winch front and rear, and as long as you stop digging yourself in when you get stuck, there is a good chance you can back out most times. I would always use a snatch block to double the pulling power, and at worst, it's a days digging to bury the spare wheel. This the th font winch, and I have replace the wire rope with synthetic line.
