Winter weather weekend trip

So after our big Arizona storms this past week we decided to spend the weekend taking it all in. It snowed above about 4000ft Friday night so we got up Saturday morning and headed up to the small town of Oracle to see the snow. There was probably about 5" on the ground.

This is a view of the Guillero Mtns. across the San Pedro Valley.

And back toward the Catalina Mtns.

We took a short forest service road out of the upper end of Oracle where the snow was the heaviest.

So that was it for snow but Sunday we headed out to Willow Springs Ranch and enjoyed some wet desert. It has been a while since we have had much rain here.

This is called Tunnel Ranch, behind the ranch house there is a tunnel cut into the cliffside that is damned up and full of cold clear water all the time. From what I understand this used to be a cavalry outpost.

Another view of the Guillero's.

Lunchtime, all of the water holes that have been dry for months were all completely full after this storm!

A view of the Pinal Mtns. south of Globe. They looked like they saw quite a bit of snowfall.

We stopped at some rocky outcroppings to do a little r/c rockcrawling.:wings:

We kept heading NE toward an area I had never been. We were following a road down a big wash and ran into this rock wall dropoff. The road went around and to the bottom luckily.:Wow1:

We came out of the wash at the Gila Rive across from Kearny. The only way out was the road that follows the river east to Winkelman.

As we came down the road to cross the San Pedro into Dudleyville it became apparent that some minor flooding had occured:snorkel:, the mud was washed way up both sides of the river and the road hardly looked like a road anymore. Well we got across okay and finally made it home after a loooong 12 hour day!

Now it's off to the White Mountains next weekend for some real snow.:victory:

Great area to check out! I think you could spend days out there and still find a new trail to check out. I'd bet money the dam was from the CCC era..

Cool pics!

Hope to catch you guys on the next one.

Neat pictures - amazing how different the terrain looks with the addition of some snow. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for showing me some new area, Tim! And for some good pics of my truck - I've never picked up more mud than I did this weekend!

That's when you take it to the local hand car wash buy the $9 cheapo and throw them an extra $2 for the dirty car.

I wish I could but with the cb antenna and all the goodies on the rack they won't touch it! And the cb antenna isn't quick to take off.
