Wiring question

I have two Mitsubishis - an '87 Montero and a '97 Montero Sport. I'm planning to upgrade the lights in both, and have sourced the proper bulbs (and in the case of the '87, the Cibie conversion kits.) However, there is a question about their wiring: are the headlights conventionally switched, or do they (like Toyota and Subaru, I'm told) use ground switched lights?

I don't know enough about wiring to figure out which is which!

Just for the sake of observation, I have used Cibié lamps on my '87 Raider, with either 100/90 (high / low) and 100/55 (high / low) watt bulbs while I could still get them, then later 55/90 (low / high) watt bulbs because of expense. I drove the Raider over hill and dale for about 100K miles, never having issues with the stock wiring.

You can look up the Page 8-147 of the Dodge Raider Volume 2 Electrical, Heater & Air Conditioning FSM at URL below. This site is run by Monty McV on 4x4wire and should have your Sport FSM, too.

Thanks. I finally got my Sport FSM in the mail, and rapidly figured out that they were ground switched.

However, I can't make heads or tails out of the wiring diagram for the '87! (It's not nearly as easy to understand as the '97 diagram.)

As to the wiring itself: it's not so much a worry about problems, rather it's a desire to get the best performance possible. If that means running heavier wires and relays to minimize voltage drops and squeeze out every last lumen, I'm willing to do it.
