Wisco's 94 F150

I figured this thread was as good as any to introduce myself and my truck. I've been reading here for quite awhile, and recently made an account. This seems like a great online community, and I'm excited to be a part of it.

My truck, affectionately known as "Herb", is a 1994 F-150 XLT. It's powered by a 5.0L V8 backed by a M5OD manual trans. It rides on a 4" Rough Country lift kit and 33" BFG AT's. I've owned the truck for a little better than 2 years now, and have put just over 20k miles on it. I wish I was able to upgrade and modify the truck more to my liking in the time that I've owned it, but the majority of the time and money spent on it has been on maintenance and correcting stupid things the PO did. Although the truck has had it's share of issues, it's been one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned. Which is more than I can say for the the Land Rover and Jeeps I've owned in the past. It's also almost completely rust free, which is a nice bonus living in Northern WI. The tricky part is keeping it that way...

I'll update this thread as I continue to fix, modify and explore with Herb.

Herb is cool, looks like a great rig. Not too much motor, but with torque. Manual transmission for good input on technical roads or trails . Not too little or too much lift. Extra cab 4 space but not too long like a crew cab long bed would be. Pretty awesome base. About the only thing I can't say positive is not my color. But the rest is got it going on.

The 5.0 is a little doggy on the highway, 3.55 gears and 33's aren't doing it any favors. Size wise, it's about perfect for my needs until I need to start carting offspring around. The back seats fold flat and make a great cargo area.

I hated the color at first, but it kinda grows on you. It's very "90's"...

Looks like a cool truck man, whats the plans for it?

Mostly reliability and comfort things at this point. I'd like a heavier duty front bumper with recovery points. My current one has been the demise of a few of Bambi's unlucky relatives. It shows the abuse, as does the hood and grille.

Upgraded lighting would help a lot in the deer avoidance area as well.

I've also been thinking about a topper, but that would make hauling my ATV difficult.

I recently moved out of the city and back into the sticks, so I'll have more of an opportunity to use it to it's potential rather than beat it back and forth across town. We'll see what comes up and go from there.

Thanks for the kind words.

amgvr4, I've read through most of your build thread. I really dig your rear bumper and am jealous of the CCSB. I considered a powerstroke truck, but I really don't have a use for a diesel. They can be a pain here in the winter months too.

Nice truck though. Where in WI are you? I used to live in De Pere (near Green Bay) back in high school when that truck was new.

I'm in northwestern part of the state, about an hour and a half straight north of Eau Claire.

I lived down in Oshkosh for around 7 years, so I'm pretty familiar with the Fox Valley/GB area too.

Nice truck. I had a F-250 with a 5.0 and the Mazda 5spd and 3.55 gears. I used the crap out of low range. I put 100k on that truck- while in my early 20's and gave it constant hell! It was a super dependable truck. I really liked it. Knowing what I do today- I'd have swapped in a set of 4.10's. You could find a used set pretty cheap I'd say. Actually, I bought a complete stump for our 94' F-150 for $100 from a guy who specialized in parting out obs trucks. These things are super cheap and easy to work on. Keep us posted! Oh- and with a few tweaks and upgrades you can get that 5.0 making a noticeably larger amount of power.

I've got an 8.8 with 4.10s and a LSD out of an explorer that I was planning on putting in my old XJ... I'm not sure if the carrier would be a direct swap into the F150 8.8 though.

Nice truck, really like the extended cab. I couldn't find one in my area that had the drivetrain I wanted without serious rust issues. I dig the color too, very 90's!
