WTB - 3rd Gen

Expo’ers,
I've been living in the Virgin Islands for the past year and a half, but am moving back to the Northern VA/DC area on Nov. 16 and really would love to get into a 3rd gen. Figured I’d go ahead and post to see what’s out there.

I am looking for a 1998-2002 4runner sport 4x4 V6. Mileage is not a factor as long as the vehicle has been properly maintained, is clean, and can pass a basic pre-purchase inspection. Mildly built (still daily driver capable) trucks are a plus as I’ll probably be going for basic suspension/tire/bumper mods immediately if I get a stock truck.

Let me know what you guys have…even if you are a long ways away from Virginia; I am definitely open to flying out and driving back for the right truck (it’s all about the adventure, right?).

Thanks guys!
Ben

3rd Gen

I am about to advertise my 3rd Gen. It is a 1999 4Runner Ltd. white with silver trim. Has factory locker and is in excellent mechanical condition with all options working like new. The leather seats have some wear but no tears. Back seats look like they were never sat in. It has 108,500 miles on it. I bought this sleeper from an AZ gal a year ago with the intent to mod it but 13 months later it is still bone stock and don't have the time or budget to take it to the next level. PM me if you are interested and I will send pic's. It got tagged with a few hail dents in a recent storm here so have adjusted the price accordingly. Asking $8,000.00. I changed all the fluids when I bought it and it runs great and shows well also. I have been lurking on this site for a number of years and decided on this model year based on everyone's recommendations. Time to let someone else have it so they can let it be all it can be. Decided to post it here first. Will put it on Craigs list if no one interested here and sell it to someone looking for a cream puff SUV. Let me know if you are interested. Only trades I am interested in are for an FZJ80 or maybe a 100. Can add cash if values don't match.

Dang, I've enjoyed that build up. Seems like lots of 3rd gen guys move to 80's. (I also went from 3rd gen to 100).

Thanks. I have been thinking about it from time to time, but the negatives keep nagging at me.
The MPG is a big one. With two 5 gallon cans I can hit almost 500 miles on pavement. In an 80, I'd need to tow a tanker truck.

Still, the increase in interior space would be nice!

Ying and Yang I guess! :Wow1:

If the right opportunity and the right 80 comes along I'd be game! If not, I may just keep this truck forever!

If you've got a family, no brainer - go get a LC. Even if you don't have a fam now, but will start one someday, it'd be wise to invest your time and money into something that will accommodate them. But the Runner is cool and if you can make it work, it's a sweet ride!
