WTB or Borrow: Comfortable kid carrier back pack

We're doing a trip to Big Bend in a little over a month. We're planning on doing several day hikes, and we need a good comfortable backpack for our 7 month old. She'll be about 17-19lbs (was almost 17 a couple weeks ago, and growing fast!) I've looked at a few Kelty ones at a local second hand kids clothing/gear store but haven't been impressed.

Also, this is likely going to be the only trip where we'll need the back pack for some time. So I'm even inquiring to borrow one!

Let me know if anyone has one that they'd like to part with/ let me borrow!

Thanks!

I'd suggest getting a Deuter Kid comfort 2. If your an REI member buy one to try it out there. They are ten times more comfortable than the Kelty for you. I would sell you mine but I still use it sometimes for my son who will be 4 in December. I've had the same one since he was 9 months old. I had a Kelty before that. Also if you drop the frame you can put a full 3L camelback bladder inside the frame slot. Here's a picture of us up at Rocky Mtn NP just before he turned 2. I've got two Mtn house meals, stove, pan, water filter, ground cloth and all the goodies that the little ones require in and on the pack. Until Eberlestock gets into the kid carrier game these are the ones I recommend to everyone.

+1 on the deuter kid comfort, the kid comfort 3 comes with a sunshade fwiw. helps alot when you're out in the sun as well. I tried out all sorts (kelty, sherpani, etc) before we settled on the deuter, simply because it was built like a tank and was easily adjustable. we had one for my son and we used it a lot for more than just hiking.. street fairs, flea markets, walks around the block, sportscar races, etc.. I was sad when he outgrew it at around 3 but i sold it for about 30 less than i paid for it.

x100 on the Deuter Kid Carrier. I've had mine for two years, brilliant design. Rei usually has a good deal on them this time of year.

I have a very nice kelty I will sell. Shoot me yr email and I will send pics. Depending on how you go to big bend you can even pick it up on the way. I am in the Midland Odessa area.

We've got a Kelty FC 2.0 with the accessory sun shade and love it. We use it in-place of a stroller most of the time since the pack maneuvers about as well as you do on your feet so grocery shopping, mall crawling, and generally any task where one moves about on foot become easier. In fact, the boy spent most of the day yesterday at the Offroad Expo in it checking things out, and sleeping.

One bone to pick with it (and all of them, really) is that at 6'4", NONE of the kid carriers fit me properly - they're all too short. If you're a tall guy, be warned. Not Deuter, not Kelty, not Osprey, not any of the brands I could find at REI really fit properly.

Ha. Midland/Odessa? I'm there at least 4 times a year. We should meet sometime and chat. Maybe have some lunch.
