WTB Unimog / Camper Combo

Hi All

Looking for a Unimog / Camper combination for an upcoming trip. Would prefer something in relatively good condition that doesn't require too much work. Would love something like a Unicat but realistically, my budget will not stretch to that. I'm probably looking at a U1300L or something similar, with a decent camper on the back (bed, stove, fridge, head, shower, etc.).

I would prefer to find a vehicle in Canada or the USA, but would be happy to import from another country if the right unit becomes available.

Also willing to consider other vehicles besides Unimogs, but must have decent level of 4x4 / offroad capability.

Cheers

trying to help..

There is a real nice older one on here somewhere that is for sale in the UK. Also on the UK Ebay...Not a bad price IIRC too :wings:

Hi Guys

Thanks for the posts and suggestions. Although the 2 vehicle in Seattle look pretty nice, we're probably looking for something a little more recent 1985 - 1995 ish. I tried clicking on the link to the one in the UK and it had expired so perhaps that one has been sold. Anyway, I really appreciate the links.

Cheers

I don't think I have ever seen a model that new pop up used in the PNW. Well, maybe in truck classifieds but none of them had boxes already.

Not a unimog, but...

Here is one in the UK. Not a Unimog, but certainly looks like a capable 4x4.

You might want to checkout import requirements to the US for something like this as someone previously mentioned here about importing issues with a Leyland DAF.

I may have a idea for you:ylsmoke:

Many moons ago, I was motorcycle traveling in Senegal/Africa and had the chance to take a Unimog for a spin for a couple of weeks. Nothing special so far...
That Unimog (a 416) had the coolest ever camperbox mounted! Imagine: a 416 long wheelbase with a 1978 VW Westfalia camper screwed on top. The front of the VW was removed just behind the driver seats and mounted/ firmly attached behind the Unimogs drivers cab. I may be able to upload a pic of that set up--if I find the slide pic.....

But a conversion like that one would be VERY affordable and capable!

Just an idea....

Thanks Colin

I was in touch with the owner of this a few weeks ago. It looks a nice unit but I don't know much about Leyland DAF. What's the general consensus on that type of vehicle vs a Unimog or other MB truck? My only concern with this vehicle would be the availability of parts / service within this part of the world (Canada / USA). Canada's import rules state the vehicle has to be 15 years old or over. As this one is a 1995 it would just squeak in. Anyone have any experience with the Leyland DAFs????

Cheers

I'm open to pretty much any ideas at the moment. If you can find a photo that would be great.

Found it! Well, not the one I had in mind, but as a quick fix I will post what I have... Sorry about the crappy quality but I will try to get a better scan the next little while...

Cheers,
Andreas
