I don't know about comparing them to maxtrax, I'm sure at nearly 1/3 the price the quality would not be the same.

I can say from personal experience, i have used them on numerous occasions at the beach in sand and the woods and they have yet to fail me. My buddy has a set too and we have put both our sets through the ringer. I'm very happy with them.
