XJ cargo area aux fuel tank

Hi Gang!

After a long hard search for a larger gas tank for my '99 I've not been able to find any thing suitable.

I'm thinking I may install a marine below deck poly tank inside my XJ,
I found this one:
http://www.wmjmarine.com/moe-32518.html
It's 18 gallons and measures 36.5"Lx18.25"Wx7.25"H. They also have one that is 10" longer and holds 25 gallons.
It would be installed under a rear cargo deck with venting to the outside via the stock filler. I would plumb it to have a separate fill incorporated in to the rear most space just below the cargo deck. I would use a transfer pump to fil the main tank.

I could use a bit of help!
My XJ is parked about 60 miles away so I can't pull any measurements. Anyone know what the length of the cargo area is both with the rear seat up as well as down?

Comments thoughts and suggestions are most welcome!

The Jaz is nice but as was said I would lose my stock filler and only gain 10 gallons for $650+:Wow1:

I'm wanting to add 20-30 gallons.
Jaz has a 22 gallon that is pretty low profile...

Is it worth trying to do an aux fuel tank setup like in full size Fords or FZJ80s? Your own fab would be required, and I'm not sure where you'd stick the aux tank.

I'll have to take a look the next time I'm under the Jeep. Is there a big enough spot behind the front output of the transfer case to be worth the bother? Mind's eye is not registering.

Thanks for the input!

There's not a lot of room under there!
here is one from Oz, about 12 gallons or so:

I think I'm gonna have to put inside under the deck.
Jaz makes a 22gal cell that's 25x25 and only 9" tall but the fill is right in the center...

And not much of an increase.. 5gallon Rich. No where near the extra capacity your wanting.

I'll be doing it come spring, but then again i hope to carry a few 5gal cannisters as well to double my range.

Given the apparent options, I think you should stick with your original plan, but enclose it in a custom steel enclosure (including the filler & vent tubes) for safety reasons. This would allow you to place items on top of the extra fuel safely as well.

Oh, I like that! Not a fan of carrying jerry cans where it can be avoided.

I can tell just by looking at it it won't play nice with the TNT skid plate though. The skid plate will touch or intrude into the tank.

Looks like they use part of the e-brake distribution doohickey holes to mount the tank. That will make adjustment a PITA. Actually,I wonder if this will even work on the last generation of the XJ.

There's another Oz company that makes a larger tank to go in the stock location. It is expensive though at ~$700 plus International shipping. IIRC it adds 5-10 gallons. There was a discussion about it over at NAXJA.

Between that and the aux tank above that would be a lot of fuel on board but at what cost? I have no intentions of leaving North America so I'm not too keen on spending that kind of money for extra fuel.
